Shoutout to The coop daddy!

Mr. Hepting has been the best coop daddy ever! He has helped each student grow as an individual, from leadership skills to math he's taught it all. I'm so glad I had the privilege to have hepting as a teacher. The last week was stressful but he understood our priorities with finals and didn't stuff them all into the last two days of school. Thank you so much hepting for all your efforts in extending our learning.

Coop campout

The campout was amazing! Even though it rained all night i loved it! When we were all making dinner it felt like we were actually a family. We made sure everyone was fed, I gave priyanka a chicken hot dog because she doesnt eat beef. It was the best bonding experience ever. I wish it was two nights! Coop has been anunforgettable  experience for me and all my fellow classmates. I am so thankful I was one of 28 lucky students to get into this rare experience. I wish it didnt have to end.

Shark video

Today Ms. Rogerson substituted for Mr. Hepting today. It was really fun . We watched a shark video and it was really well done. It changed my whole perspective on not only sharks but marine life in general. Their defenceless but they remain key species to out ecosystem. A part of me wishes we watched this video earlier in the year and had done something to raise awareness.

A loooong week

This week has been reallly really busy. Tuesday was prep for both the grade 7 articulation and the school carnival. I had lots of fun with the grade 7's, although the boys weren't always cooperative. Then yesterday was the carnival, i honesty thought the whole thing would not be as successful as it was. Our game was a popular hit! Now everyone in co-op is wishing there was a grade 12 co-op.  :(

Grade 7 tours

Yesturday half the class did the grade 7 tours for Highland, Mclaude Road and Woodward. Alayah and I had a mixed of group of 10 kids. I realized they were really shy at first but as the tour got loner and I added some humour as i talked, they seemed to open up more and asked questions often. Mr. Whitham gave each leadership student a list of everything we should show them in the school and The one thing that I think is important that wasn't on the list was showing the inside of an actual locker. Thats where most of the questions raised when I showed my own personal locker. I assured them that the physically size of the locker does not allow any children to be stuffed inside. Opening the actual lock scares them. On a positive note, they loved seeing the metal shop and wood shop as wellas the   foods room. OH and the super lab. Some of the kids in the group weren't shy and they talked to some of the grade 12 students during our tour.

Aquarium

Today we went on a fieldtrip to the aquarium! It was so exciting to be allowed to handle the underwater creatures. I didn't enjoy holding the creatures because they tinkled my hands. But it was fascinating to hear about them. I felt the scientific method workshop afterwards was unnecessary and too long. Other than that the day was exciting. My favourite is the penguins and sea otters! :)

I'm on the wall of awesome at work experience!

IT'S BEAUTIFUL !

Last day of work experience...

Yesturday was a sad day. I absolutely loved work experience. It was always a fun day at work. The co workers were enjoyable, the environment, everything was just amazing. Everyday my sales were higher than my given sales goal. Yesterday my goal was $1500 and i got $2418! Luckily I will be back at American Eagle soon as I am going to get hired in about a month or so. But I did leave all my coworkers a little thank you card before I left , it was touching to see all my coworkers sad about me leaving... :')

MEETING THE VP OF AMERICAN EAGLE

Last Tuesday I knew that the regional manager, district manager, the vice president and one more other important person was coming to check up on the store. I wasn't as nervous going into work as I was on the sales floor. Right after my break around 1 am the vice president is seen heading towards the entrance. Since he is walking into the women's section I have to great him and give him the promotion run down. I was so scared because he was a 6 foot 5 black dude. Throughout the duration of the day my manager kept hounding me to keep everything pristine. Every time I came across one of the important visitors i would engage in a conversation with them. After three hours they left. My manager calls me over and whispers, so are you going to apply here after work experience? And i said yes i would love to actually work here! And she said well the vice president really liked you and he doesnt have to like you because you are only work experience. And she went on to say they should hire me. SO THAT IS HOW I CAME ABOUT TO GETTING MY FIRST REAL JOB!

First and only Saturday Shift at AE

Today I worked 2-7 on a Saturday. It was absolutely hectic with customers constantly rushing through. My goal for sales was $1000 and I achieved $2100! My managers were so proud of me! I also won our employee contest! Because the store made their hourly team goal each employee working that hour gets their name thrown into a bowl. At the end of the day a name is drawn and today mine was drawn! I defiantly love working at American Eagle!

Week 2 of Work Ex

I absolutely love working at American Eagle! The staff members are all young and fun. I'm pretty sure if they didn't have a huge number of staff already they would hire me. Last monday and tuesday I sold more than the actual employees. I like working in the mens section because theres two types of people who come in: men who want to shop but have no idea what to look for so they take all my suggestions, or women shopping for their husbands and have no clue what to buy them so they take all my suggestions. I particularly like how each day the store writes their goals on a white board and each employee working that day has a set goal of sales they should obtain by the en of their shift. And at the end of your shift you review what you did well and what you should improve on. In an 8 hour day I typically sell $800. This entire experience has helped improve my communication using the head set. To work as a team we must communicate constantly to each other which customers have been told the promo, the name and number of customers in the fitting room and who has been helped. Although 8 hour shifts of standing and constantly tidying clothes is tedious I like interacting with people and the time goes by fast on good days.

The week before work experience

This week we had 2 math tests. Along with an essay that was due to English. It was probably the most stressful week this entire year so far. I didn't like how Mr. Hepting taught one lesson and then started a new lesson and during the new lesson we had a math test for the other lesson. So i wasn't focused on learning the new lesson because I was trying to reciew the old one, and by the time it was time for the second test I didn't know anything... I found it really unreasonable ( we still have a month and a half left of school after work ex. and only 3 units left.

Aside from the negative, I am really excited about work experience as a whole. I had my interview last Wednesday and it was defiantly challenging, she asked questions that had a million answers and she would continue to correct my answer each time. A bad experience that I will learn from inevitably. Monday is my first day at American Eagle!

A first for everything

Last Thursday was the first time I have ever gone to a driving range. It was a fun experience and I grew a new appreciation for golfers. HAHA no kidding, it was challenging just to hit the ball.

Spring break 2013

This spring break I'm really happy the class didn't have any homework. I finally found a tutor for pre cal. I see the tutor tomorrow at 7:30.

Weekly update week 4&5 and okay I'm no longer counting the weeks I lost track.

Right now I am sitting at 72% in Pre-Calculus, 83% in Biology and 82% in English. The rational expression unit in math last week was probably the most stressful, I admit I cried a couple times doing the homework (LOL). I feel good about my current marks, but I know I can do better in Biology and English class. As for work experience, I have no clue where I want to go spend the three weeks, but I am planning around retail to further my people skills. I also hope we get ZERO homework during spring break *cough cough*. :)

It felt really good to help the community and clean up the trash.

Food Bank

We just got back from the food bank in Walley and the experience was really enjoyable. It was my first time volunteering and just being at the food bank. A lot more organized then I imagined which was a positive, but there was a mouse in one of the boxes (obvious negative). I loved sorting the food, the time went by so fast, I didn't want to leave when it was time to go. The trip there and back was equally as fun. I hope we go again in the future!

Oh yeah!

My design for our co-op hoodie was chosen for the front! VERY PROUD of my small accomplishment!

Week 2 & 3

Last Friday was our first English quiz which was a little unfair considering she forgot to tell us one of the terms to study, oh well. But i got 8/10 on the quiz which left me at 84% in English. And early on last week Chantel, Alayah and I presented our flag in class which was hilarious.

Then there was the taxonomy quiz, hooray for studying because I got 34/40! The test was actually kind of fun.. LOL

And right now I'm studying for our Polynomials test tomorrow. I feel good and I have definitely found some comfort in the material, so fingers crossed I don't have any anxiety during the test!

1st Math Test of the Semester

Well... I can definitely say I'm not proud of today's test. My anxiety took over once I received the test, and I just couldn't focus. I personally know that I know the material but my anxiety attack made the test harder than it looked. Looks like another goal: Control anxiety by getting comfortable with the material. Hopefully this works!

Leadership CO-OP Hoody

I really hope my design is voted for! It would be cool if the class agreed to have my design on the front. :)

Volunteer hours complete

This is only to keep record of my volunteer hours. Summer 2012 I was credited 50 hours for volunteering at BC Summer Games and I also received a reference letter. Also last Friday (February 8, 2013) I was credited 16 hours for volunteering at Envision Jazz Festival and I hope to receive another reference letter. Altogether I have 66 hours from volunteering. Although I am unsure if the volunteering hours I spent at a veterinary clinic would apply. Unfinished thought...

First Two Weeks in CO-OP

It's been two weeks since semester two has begun and so far CO-OP has been a fun experience so far. I like the fact that it feels like were in elementary school class placement and we have one fixed group of peers throughout the entire day. My personal goal for this semester is to figure out which subject I would like to major in as I progress in my education, currently I feel I would like to major in Social Studies or English and defiantly not Sciences. This semester will be a blast! Whoop!
